The Confusion of Tongues at the Tower of Babel

Whom did this event affect?  Was it merely the Hamites, as Mr Bryan Fischer asserted today on Focal Point (9 Sept. 2019)?  Or did it affect all people of the whole world?  The teaching of the Orthodox Church leaves no doubt:  This event touched all of mankind at some level.  How do we know this?  Because the Holy Feast Day of Pentecost, on which we celebrate the unity brought to humanity by the descent of the Holy Ghost, is precisely the undoing of the confusion and division that occurred at Babel.  One of the hymns for that Feast proclaims,

When the most High came down and confused the tongues,

He divided the nations;

But when he distributed the tongues of fire

He called all to unity.

Therefore, with one voice, we glorify the All-holy Spirit!

If the effects of the judgment at Babel were not universal, there would have been no need for a universal remedy in the pouring out of the Spirit upon mankind.
