Offsite Post: ‘Solar Minimum and the Green Energy Debacle’

Unless the Lord intervenes, it looks like the earth is heading into a protracted cooling period caused by a decline in solar activity.  Details:

Valentina Zharkova is a Ukrainian solar researcher with a solid academic background, world-leading research, and numerous groundbreaking publications. She graduated with top honors in applied mathematics from Kiev National University (KNU) in 1975. Zharkova obtained her doctorate in astrophysics, specializing in "Radiative Transfer of Solar Prominences," at the Astronomical Main Observatory in Kiev in 1984. She worked as a researcher and lecturer at KNU for many years.

In 1992, Zharkova moved to the United Kingdom and became a leading researcher at the University of Glasgow, studying energy particles in solar flares. After extensive research, she discovered that solar flares were triggered by solar quakes, and in 1998, her groundbreaking discovery was published in the prestigious scientific journal Nature.

In 2000, Zharkova became a lecturer at Bradford University, and in 2005, she became a professor of applied mathematics. In September 2013, she was employed by Northumbria University as a professor of mathematics and physics. During her time there, Zharkova published over 200 articles, including 3 articles in Nature-affiliated journals. It was one of these articles that predicted the modern Grand Solar Minimum, which she believes will affect the Earth between 2020 and 2053. Interestingly, 2020 was also the year when the alleged coronavirus pandemic was used to implement extensive lockdowns and the introduction of “The New Normal,” which several countries have since made permanent, with the explanation that the world will never be the same again.

Professor Zharkova has authored a monograph on particle kinetics, served as an editor for a book on automated recognition and classification of digital images, and wrote the RHESSI book on high-energy particles. The solar researcher has also contributed to 18 other books. Zharkova has previously received funding from the European Commission, EPSRC, STFC, Royal Society, RAS, and the US Air Force.

In a 2019 interview with the award-winning Canadian journalist Stuart McNish on his program “Conversations That Matter,” Zharkova explained with great seriousness and caution that solar researchers have been observing signs since 2015 that solar activity is decreasing in a manner only seen during the Grand Solar Minimum, which last occurred during the Maunder Minimum 400 years ago. She cites NOAA, NASA, and other research organizations that have noted this trend in various ways but have not communicated it to the public. Zharkova asserts that the significantly reduced solar activity, which we have barely witnessed the beginning of, will inevitably lead to dramatic climate and weather changes as well as global cooling. She also specifies the time period she believes will be the worst:

“Between cycle 25 and 11 years of cycle 26 [the least active cycle], and between cycle 26 and 27, will be the coldest period on Earth, and we will feel it through a lack of vegetation.”

Therefore, starting after the active period during this cycle SC25, from the second half of this decade until the early 2050s, Earth will experience exceptional cold, extreme weather, earthquakes, and volcanic eruptions. She points to 2030 as the year when it will seriously begin, warning that the 2030s will be so cold that it will result in a severe food shortage.

A longer analysis of this phenomenon is presented here.

Even if the cooling and its consequences aren’t as severe as the worst-case scenario discussed above, this forecast still raises serious questions about energy policy in the US.

First, regarding carbon capture – with lower temperatures, farming will be more difficult, but as was mentioned in this article, lowering carbon dioxide levels in the air will also hamper the growth of crops (sunlight + CO2 + H2O = food for plants; i.e., photosynthesis).  It would be extremely foolish of us, knowing what’s coming, to try to drastically lower carbon dioxide levels; we should not by any means make it more difficult to produce food.  This consideration alone is sufficient reason to scrap carbon capture projects altogether.

Second, any State government with a shred of good sense needs to scrap major green energy projects (solar and wind) for more reliable energy production methods (mainly hydrocarbons and nuclear).  . . .

Offsite Post: ‘Of Arete, Football, and Monks’

The ancient Greeks had a word for ‘excellence’ that was very special to them:  arete (said ah-ree-tee).  One fellow, Dr. Mike Greenberg, describes it in these words:

The idea of arete in Greek philosophy is one that is difficult to translate for modern audiences. In simple terms, it could be translated as excellence or superior virtue. . . . For mankind, arete was the pinnacle of virtue and achievement. Whether it was strength in battle or loyalty to one’s spouse, arete was associated with being at one’s best. But someone would not be a person of arete just through a few favorable actions. True arete came from a lifetime of excellence in all areas of life. . . . A single act of virtue was not enough to be a person of excellence, but rather a lifetime of achievement was needed. In early Greek philosophy particularly, only the most truly exceptional people were described as having arete. These people were thought to have reached their full potential. Their bodies, minds, and souls were as close to perfect as was possible. The idea of excellence also depended on who or what it was being applied to. The heroes were men of arete for their courage, strength, and devotion to the gods, while Penelope was a woman of arete for her unwavering devotion to Odysseus. . . . In all these cases, arete was achieved by fulfilling a purpose and ideal not just once, but over the course of a lifetime.

Dixie has always been a place with a special reverence for the classical inheritance of the ancient Greeks and Romans.  It is no great surprise, then, that such a fiery passion for football has grown up here at the South.  It represents, in part, our own desire for arete, for excellence – in the conditioning and shaping of the body, in valor, in skillful coaching, in overcoming adversity; in cheering, in loyalty, in mascots, in the gameday cooking; and so on.

Southern arete on the football field is unmistakable:

There can be little doubt that college football in the 21st century has belonged to the West Division of the SEC.

The Deep South’s corner of the college football world has had a hand in a staggering 10 of the 23 national titles given out since 2000—six for Alabama, three for LSU and one for Auburn. Each of the division’s other four members—ArkansasMississippi StateMississippi and Texas A&M—has appeared in at least one New Year’s Six-equivalent bowl game as well.

That’s what makes the statistic shared by Josh Dubow of the Associated Press on Saturday evening so staggering: 2023 is the first year since 2002 in which every SEC West team has incurred a loss before October.

The division’s final remaining unbeaten team, the No. 15 Rebels, lost 24-10 to the No. 13 Crimson Tide on Saturday afternoon.

In 2002, the SEC West’s head coaches included Nick Saban at LSU, future U.S. senator Tommy Tuberville at Auburn and Dennis Franchione at Alabama. The Razorbacks won the division, but lost 30-3 to Georgia in the conference championship game.

But as we are seeing with the rising rates of criminality among athletes, from high school on up, athletic training does not impart everything necessary for a virtuous life, which is the only kind of life worth living:

With football action officially back, the NFL would love nothing more than to sweep all the off-field issues of its players under the rug and lure the focus of fans back to the gridiron. And frankly, after an offseason full of mind-numbing Deflategate coverage, so would we.

However, if there was one thing Deflategate accomplished, it was drawing the media’s attention away from the all the real legal troubles NFL players ran into. And boy, was there a lot of that.

In 2015 alone, there have been 31 NFL players arrested, including six instances of domestic violence, five DUIs, three guns/weapons charges, and one shocking case of animal abuse, which featured former Falcons linebacker Prince Shembo killing his ex-girlfriend’s five-pound dog out of “self-defense.” Atlanta released Shembo once the story broke, but now that he’s taken a plea deal, the Falcons are considering bringing him back. Keep in mind that when Shembo was a student at Notre Dame, he also allegedly sexually assaulted a student at nearby St. Mary’s College who killed herself two weeks after the incident.

So, forgive us if we think that crime in the NFL hasn’t quite gotten the coverage it’s deserved this year.

According to the USA Today database used to create our interactive NFL Arrests topic, 132 NFL players have been arrested multiple times since 2000. Aldon Smith became the latest player to add to his criminal record in late August, when he was arrested on his third DUI charge.

While some of these are more serious than others, it’s still difficult to comprehend why these millionaires would compromise their lucrative careers by breaking the law multiple times. Then again, while the NFL is worried about how inflated its balls are, many of these players go unpunished by the league for their transgressions.

There is something more that is needed to bring people to their fullest potential, to the highest arete, the highest excellence.  We find that intangible factor in religion, particularly Christianity, and most particularly in the monks and nuns who have given up everything earthly for the sake of union with God.  Their striving for this spiritual arete is even more arduous than the football player’s weekly practice routine.  A recent Greek saint of the Orthodox Church, St. Joseph the Hesychast, who reposed in 1959, offers a wonderful example:

Offsite Post: ‘Now They’re Coming for the Shrimp’

We have written before about how Big Pharma has targeted livestock for injections with their synthetic mRNA shots.  But that cartel has a ravenous appetite, always looking out for other prey to devour – i.e., markets to conquer.  Its overlords seem to have settled on at least one new victim:

Shrimp.

Dr. Joseph Mercola lays out the details:

Shrimp are slated to become the latest food source exposed to messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) vaccines, courtesy of ViAqua Therapeutics, an Israeli-based biotechnology startup. The company has secured $8.25 million in funding from venture capitalists for its oral RNA-based shrimp vaccine, which is intended to target white spot syndrome virus (WSSV).

With plans to administer its RNA-based product via coated feed, ViAqua suggests the RNA molecules can inhibit gene expression, silencing disease-affected genes with every meal. WSSV is a devastating condition in shrimp, leading to a 15% reduction in global shrimp production each year — an annual loss of about $3 billion.

ViAqua says challenge tests show its RNA-based formulation improved shrimp survival against WSSV, but at what cost? The use of mRNA in the food supply is controversial for good reason — no one knows what the long-term consequences will be.

This experimental approach to shrimp vaccination is particularly troublesome as their immune system is poorly understood:

Shrimp lack an adaptive immune system, the type that "remembers" exposures to infectious agents so it can mount a better response the next time it comes around. Because of this, it’s long been assumed that shrimp cannot be vaccinated. According to the Global Seafood Alliance:7

"Scientific literature on shrimp has often adopted terms and approaches from mammalian immunology, but not always in a correct way. Such is the case in the use of the term "vaccination" in crustaceans. The principle of vaccination is based on two key elements of the immune system: specificity and memory. These two properties are not recognized in the immune systems of shrimp and other invertebrates."

However, while shrimp don’t have adaptive immunity in the traditional sense, it’s becoming clear that they do have some defense against viruses, which is only beginning to be understood. In 2008, researchers with Australia’s University of Queensland explained, "There is mounting evidence for specific immune memory in crustaceans, including shrimp," adding:8

"It has been widely assumed that no such adaptive systems exist in invertebrates, thus vaccines have not been routinely developed and used in shrimp aquaculture. Invertebrates were considered to rely solely on an innate immune system characterized by generalized immune responses to conserved molecular structures of invading pathogens such as bacteria and fungi.

Some of these pathways are relatively well understood, involving an array of pattern recognition receptors interacting with serine proteases to initiate encapsulation, phagocytosis and an antimicrobial cascade based on the phenoloxidase enzyme system.

However, what is becoming more apparent is that the diversity and sophistication of innate responses in invertebrates is far greater than previously assumed. The invertebrate immune response to viruses is particularly poorly understood."

ViAqua’s RNAi product claims to "enhance resistance to viral infections" in shrimp, and they have plans to develop additional mRNA vaccines for fish and other biotechnology products targeting additional shrimp viruses and other pathogens.

But shrimp pathogens of one kind or another are virtually guaranteed to persist in the intensive aquaculture farms where many shrimp are raised. Further, the risks of tinkering with shrimp genetics are completely unknown.

Many shrimp that are sold are already highly contaminated.  Adding a new mRNA compound would only make a bad situation worse:
