Remembrances for October

Dear friends, if you have time, please pray for these members of the Southern family on the day they reposed.  Many thanks.

But one may ask:  ‘What good does it do to pray for the departed?’  An answer is offered here:  https://orthochristian.com/130608.html

Along with prayers and hymns for the departed:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M6je5axPodI

Henry Hughes of Port Gibson, Mississippi.  He did a little of everything:  lawyer, sociologist, State senator, soldier.  Some of his ideas are no longer of interest, but his vision of an economy that looks and functions like a family is still worthy of consideration.

‘St Isidora and Us’

We delight in scientific reason;

You feigned madness before others.

We crave boisterous banter with friends;

You refused to eat a meal with sister nuns.

We desire the choicest foods and finest flavors;

You drank the wash-water of the dishes.

We preen upon our lofty occupations;

You did not raise yourself above a kitchen maid.

We obsess over germs and cleanliness;

You wore an old rag upon your head.

We loathe the rebukes of our neighbors;

You delighted in the scorn of your sisters.

We dream of becoming celebrities;

You fled your convent for the wilderness and died

In an unknown place to escape your sisters’ praise.

The great Abba Pitirim bowed and asked your blessing;

He will ask nothing of us, but give instead:

The sternest curses to our God-hating hearts.

What’s Coming after COVID: The Prophecies of Holy Men

We hope you will pay special attention to this, dear ones.

THE CALM AFTER THE STORM:

THE REGENERATION OF HUMANITY AND THE TRIUMPH OF ORTHODOXY

How will this regeneration of humanity start? According to the teachings of the Church and the saints, humanity must pass through the next very difficult phases of the Third World War [we are now in the biological phase, to be followed by the geophysical and nuclear phases].5 The reposed holy Elder Joseph of Vatopedi (†2009) said [source] that at some point in this War, “the angel will sensibly appear, no longer just with a voice, and say: ‘Stop, revenge is enough. Stand well.’… Then this angel will sensibly resurrect in front of them, the sleepers from Byzantium – those from Byzantium that sleep, ecclesiastical and political leaders…and point with his finger and say, ‘Take them to govern you’...This is when the regeneration of life will start – humanity in general.” It has also been prophesied by over 50 (Greek, Russian, Romanian, Serbian etc) saints that a saintly king will be resurrected and rule. For example: Elder Joseph further states that: “…and now sleeps one who is a political leader…he is a friend of God – he is a saintly person…who will take over leadership in God’s command; the angel’s. He will be miraculous…There will be so much tranquillity, so much peace, so much happiness for about 3 to 4 decades so Christians can be well organised. After all these, the Antichrist [will come] straight away [at the end of the world].” Moreover, the reposed saintly Elder Ephraim (Moraitis) of Arizona (†2019) said [source]: “There is a sleeper general named John, who, then, the Archangel Michael will say to the Christians that he will reign now. He will indicate to them with his finger the place, and they will invite him to lead and reign over the Greek and Orthodox people. And this will happen!”

Athonite elders say that this prophesied king-to-come is Saint John Vatatzis [the Merciful),6 Emperor of Nicaea from 1222-1254, whose relics were found incorrupt, and showing no sign that he was dead (pgs 12-13).

Islamic Metaphysics

It amounts, in the end, to a very extreme and capricious form of nominalism.  From the makers of the video, Orthodox Shahada:

This video is the first in a multi-part series produced by me and Qai which is concerned with interlinked areas of Sunni Islamic theology. This first video essay concerns a metaphysical system which I believe to be highly understated as it is intimately interlaced with and forms the conceptual backbone to many classical Sunni creedal doctrines. The highly perplexing and unusual nature of this metaphysics does not evade regular people when they first hear about it, as we time and again observe comments by lay Muslims reflecting that they have either simply never heard of these theological views or that they do not believe them to be representative of traditional Islamic thought.

This video will confirm a claim that I made in my previous video on philosophy in religious world views, namely the incorporation and appropriation of pagan philosophy into Islam’s rational theological tradition. In that video I explain why this is not necessarily a problem in principle, but that it is a problem for Islamic apologists to brandish the Gorgon’s head of pagan philosophy when dialoguing with Christians, since philosophy was readily employed by their very own Islamic theologians.
