In the new and better Eden

Before the altar and the bearded priest

The white-haired catechumen, kneeling, barefoot,

Voices his profession of the Orthodox Faith

After many years of patient waiting.

The Holy Ghost is called upon,

The holy myrrh anoints body and soul.

Do you see the Gladsome Light,

Dancing just out of sight,

Dancing just beneath the surface,

Of tables and icons and walls?

The Church embraces with joy

The newly-illumined John

With her life-filled arms.
