‘Fæderġiefu’ (‘Fathergift’)

In days gone by father gave to son
What old grandsires had always given
To the young bairn-teams - the twain of memory and tradition:

Faith in Triune God, homeplace and hearth,
Story, song, and sword.  The horse and the saddle,
And the corn and the garden.  The forebears’ wisdom,
And the kinsfolks’ craft to earn his bread.

What will he leave him now
But a hunger keen for rights
And a closet of consumer goods?

Holy Ælfred the Great, King of England, South Patron, pray for us sinners at the Souð!

Anathema to the Union!
