‘Holy Chad, the Herald of Spring’

Holy Chad, well you learned
The Apostles’ ways
From Aidan Saint.

A life of quiet you sought,
But spread the Gospel tidings
At Theodore’s behest.

Your bare feet hallowed
Middle England as you walked
From town to town to teach.

Lightning and thunder,
Wind and rain to you were
Words of God to heed.

Angelic hosts your final days
On earth announced.  And with St Cedd
They welcomed you to Heaven.

Blessed Bishop, wealth of virtues,
Your relics heal the sick.
Help us who cry now to you with faith:

Holy Chad of Lichfield,
Deliver from the Foe all Dixie-folk,
O man dear to God, by your prayers!

St Chad, who went to his rest in the Lord on 2 March 672 A.D.  Ikon from http://www.pravoslavie.ru/english/101836.htm, 21 March 2017.
